Privacy
This is a personal site run by one person in the UK. There are no accounts, no logins, and no newsletter — I don't ask you for your name, your email, or anything else. What follows is everything that does get collected, and what you can do about it.
Analytics
The site can use Google Analytics 4 to count visits — but only if you accept it. It sets cookies in your browser and tells me things like which pages get read, roughly which country a visit came from, and what kind of device was used. It does not tell me who you are, and I never try to find out. If you decline, Google's script is never loaded, so there's nothing to opt out of.
Analytics only runs if you accepted the cookie banner on your first visit. If you didn't, nothing from Google is loaded at all — no script, no cookie, no request. You can change your mind either way, right here:
Your current choice: checking…
Turning it off stops anything further being sent. Cookies already set are cleared when you clear site data in your browser.
Beyond that, you can block cookies for this site in your browser settings, or use a browser or extension that blocks trackers. /optout also exists — it's the switch I use to keep my own visits out of my numbers, and it works for anyone. None of this changes what you can read here.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links are affiliate links — see the affiliate disclosure for which and why. When you click one, the retailer (Amazon, Booking.com, Cotswold Outdoor) sets its own cookie so that a purchase can be credited back to this site. That cookie belongs to them, under their privacy policy, not mine. I see a commission figure and nothing about you personally — not your name, not your address, not what else you bought.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical details of a request — IP address, browser, which file was asked for — to serve the page and to block attacks. That happens whatever you do, because it's how the web works.
Getting in touch
If you email me, I have your email and whatever you wrote in it, for as long as the message sits in my inbox. I don't add anyone to a list, and I don't pass anything on. The address is on the about page.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask what data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you think something's wrong. In practice I hold almost nothing: analytics data is pseudonymous and sits in Google's systems rather than mine, so the fastest route to "delete my data" is the opt-out above. If you've emailed me and want that deleted, ask and it's gone.
Changes
If what the site does changes, this page changes with it. There's no archive of old versions, so the date below is the honest one.
